Philip Treacy meets Martha Stewart: Twinship Hat Edition

Twinship Hat Face Off

Someone once referred to the Twinship as the “The East African Martha Stewart’s.” Ummm…we wish…(minus the incarceration part)…

Martha Stewart defines savvy-crafty-mutitalented business woman. Martha can balance a billion dollar empire, teach us how to knit sweaters, bake chocolate chip cookies, provide gardening tips, all while throwing some serious shade.

So we  L.O.V.E. hat designer extraordinaire, Philip Treacy  (yes, this is the same post…stay with us here…we’ll connect  the dots shortly). Philip Treacy hats are: original and eccentric and showcase a whole lotta of personality. Basically, it’s like wearing art on your head. Celebs like: Iman, Sarah Jessica Parker, Dita Von Teese, and Lady Gaga have all once rocked a Philip Treacy hat with some “gone with the wind fabulous” confidence.

Ok, here’s how we connect the dots: we were so inspired by Philip’s work that we decided to try our humble hands at designing and making our own hats- Martha Stewart style. To be honest, we were pretty ambitious with this project and we soon discovered that we are NOT Philip Treacy, but here it is and here’s how we did it!

First Step

First: We made a quick trip to California Millinery Supply Company in downtown L.A.

Second: At California Millinery, we picked out our hat frame…this part is really important, so pick your frame wisely. Helena wanted something that was “Derby” like and Feven wanted something smaller, with a unique shape.

Step Three
Mood Designer Fabrics

Third: We made our way to Mood Fabrics to find the perfect fabric for our hats!  Helena picked a Pucci print — she loves bold prints and color. Feven loves animal print, so naturally she picked a Roberto Cavall fabric. Just like we were on Project Runway, we left Mood saying, “Thank you, Mood.”

Fourth: After we got our supplies, we went home to sew and drape our fabric the best we could, but then it got really tough so we had to use a hot glue gun to apply the rest of the fabric!  Yeah, we cheated.

Anyways, here it is!

xoxo,

P.S. here are some of our fav Philip Treacy hats.
