Twinship Closet: Duro Olowu for jcp

Closet, Fashion

We discovered our new fav designer Duro Olowu in the most unexpected way. During our trip to Rochester, NY our sweet mom wanted to take her “little girls” shopping at JC Penney. Rochester’s moody May weather did not motivate us to leave our parent’s house, but our mom was determined to show us these, “beautiful,colorful…very-very…nice dresses” she saw at JC Penney a few weeks ago. At one point she referred to them as “Michelle Obama dresses.”

As we made our way through the aisles of trendy spring attire, our mom pointed to a vibrant sign that read DURO OLOWU for jcp. Ummm…we died and went to affordable-textile-heaven!  Who would have thought that we would discover a Nigerian-London based designer in a small suburban town in Upstate, NY?  Because there is nothing suburban about Olowu’s use of vibrant colors and unpredictable bold prints. His patterns tell a stunning, cultural story that compliments a woman’s figure.

Still unclear as to why our mom referred to Olowu’s dress as “Michelle Obama dresses,” we googled two words: Obama and Duro…our mom was right! Remember that gorgeous, colorful dress our First Lady wore on Oprah circa 2011? That was Duro Olowu!

Thanks, mom, for spending money on us and introducing us to Duro Olowu!

xoxo,
