Thanksgiving is a time for families and friends to get together, catch up, tell stories, laugh, and of course, FIGHT. This Thanksgiving morning, our older brother Thomas almost “made us cry.” Well, at least, that was what we told him to elicit some sympathy after the slew of questions neatly wrapped in insults. “What are you guys doing with your life?” “What are you both doing out there?” He said “there” like we live in outer space. We live in Los Angeles. The worst question by far, “What’s taking you girls so long?” He could see the red in our eyes, as he casually back peddled with a kiss on the cheek and a teddy bear hug. NO! The damage has already been done.
His questions got us thinking in that “Carrie Bradshaw Sex & the City” kind of way, when she hops on her MAC, lights a cigarette, and types away, forced to answer questions about her life. Maybe watching old episodes of Sex & the City will make us feel better? After all, doesn’t Carrie strike it “Big” in the end?
Thomas’s questions were not unreasonable. Our reaction was a reflection of how we felt — misunderstood and still figuring “it” out. Have you ever felt that way?
And to be fair, Thomas is a very loving and supportive brother, who is a bit protective about his sisters moving far away from family and for that, we are thankful.
Happy Thanksgiving, everyone! Try enjoying the moments with your family and friends — even if you don’t necessarily agree with everything they’re saying or how they say it.
xoxo,
Feven & Helena #twinships
P.S. We made up with Thomas and he says, “Hey!”
