This skirt is 15-years-old!

When we were 17-years-old,  living in Rochester, NY, working as cashiers at Wegmans (the coolest grocery store–ever), in between stressing about SAT scores and college applications…there was prom! To most teenagers, having a date to prom was a must, but to us, having the right look was far more important.

You see, we were the kind of girls (and still are) who preferred casual glamour with an element of surprise. So at 17, we decided that we wanted to do something “cool and modern’ like Gwyneth Paltrow’s 1999 Golden Globe look. And so, in our attempt to have a ‘Gwyneth Paltrow #Twinship moment’, we went out and bought a long, flowy skirt that was way over our “cashier girl” budget and paired it with a tube top from Express. The final result was really an epic Twinship momemt– at least in our minds.

Although we still appreciate Gwyneth, we decided to recycle that exact skirt we bought circa 1999 and we gave it a  Carolina Herrera twist! All it took was a simple white shirt from H&M, proving something old can be new again.

Wearing that overpriced skirt 15 years later as “adults” made us really proud of the 17-year-old girls we once were. Unsure, a bit insecure, but who still went for it because, why not?

P.S. Neither one of us had a date to prom that year,  our own choice of course. We wanted to dance and laugh with our friends and leave on our own terms!
