DVF: Journey of a Dress

This weekend was the opening of one of our fav fashion designers, Diane Von Furstenberg’s, “Journey of a Dress” at the May Company Building by LACMA, celebrating 40 years of the dress that started it all…the genius wrap dress! Yes, you can #bowdown.

The stunning exhibit featured 200 interpretations of the classic and iconic design that, “empowered millions of women.” DVF’s use of bold prints and gorgeous textiles make us feel  proud to be women!

In honor of Diane Von Furstenberg, we decided to wear dresses designed by The Twinship — inspired by von Furstenberg’s use of electric textiles as seen in her “uniform for modern women.” Feven literally pulled fabric thinking only of DVF.

In a recent ELLE magazine interview when asked: where is the most exciting design happening?

DVF responded:I’d have to say Africa. They use and recycle everything there. The way they put  things together — things that really have to work and perform a function — that to me is a great design.”

Diane couldn’t be more right! As most of you readers know, Feven, spent 2 weeks in Ghana, (which she will be sharing pictures and writing more about later on this week), and to say her trip was “amazing” would be an understatement. So many life lessons learned about culture, kindness, humanity and of course…fashion.

We are true admirers of exciting textiles and fabrics, so going to Makola Market in Accra was an absolute privilege. It was there where, Feven, selected these textiles for our very first Twinship dresses. And can we just say, once you go custom…you’ll NEVER go back!

We’ll be writing more about the “journey of the Twinship dress” in our next blog post, but for now we want to send a special ‘thank you’ to all the incredibly talented tailors and new friends in Kumasi (aka Zongo boyz) for all their hard work and dedication. We are so proud and honored to represent Africa in these gorgeous garments.
