As Eritrean twins growing up we were always asked three questions: are you guys twins? followed by “fraternal or identical?” then ending with, “where are you from?”
The first two questions were pretty easy to answer, but the last question…well…that definitely required a more layered response. The last question feels more like we were giving a quick history lesson on the country of Eritrea — something that we are always proud to do. So when The Africa Channel asked us to do an interview for their TV segment, ‘Africa Everywhere,’ we jumped at the chance to spotlight a very small country with the biggest and bravest heart.

In this interview we talk about the inception of The Twinship — a world that we created to share our favorite things, lessons we have learned as Eritrean immigrants, but most importantly a place where we could put our “country on the map” in our #twinship way by using social media, an incredible tool that makes us feel more connected to our people back home.
Let us know what you think! And thank you to everyone at The Africa Channel for this opportunity. It is not lost on us.
xoxo,
Feven & Helena #twinship
P.S. in the interview we are wearing our favorite dresses designed by our beautiful, Aunt Sagad. A woman to us represents such grace, independence and resilience. Every time we wear that dress we are reminded of how far we have come, but also how much there is still to be done.
